Instructions:

- Provide questions throughout the film to ensure students are paying attention. (Questions may include: What tribe is this film about, What happened to the people of the tribe, How many people were killed, Who decided for this to happen, What happened as a result of the hanging, How long is the ride, What is the significance of horses to these people, Etc.
- After watching the film, it should be discussed and any questions students have, should be answered.
- Students should write a reflection on the film. Their reflection should answer the following: What are some effects that the Dakota 38 + 2 hanging had on the Native Peoples of this tribe, What is the significance of the ride, Why do the people (of all ages) participate in the ride, Etc.

- Split the class into three groups; One group reads 'Redskins', Names and Being Named, another group reads Insult or Humor? and the last group reads "Savages".
- Groups should answer the follow up questions to their article.
- Come together as a large group and discuss each article.
- Students should have a notes sheet to fill out for each article based on their peers' explanation.
- Finally, students should write down a list of things that have become norms in society along with possible outcomes for this happening.

- While reading, students should highlight any important information.
- Once students read both informational pieces they should fill out their venn diagrams, comparing and contrasting the different systems.
- When this is completed, hold a discussion about the student's findings, allow students to share any facts that they did not previously know, and create a class venn diagram on the board.
- The most important thing to note is that the Meskwaki Nation owns their own land whereas other Native Nations occupy reservations which are owned by the U.S. Government.
